What is Endodontics?

November 7, 2016 by

Endodontics

Endodontics plays an important role in helping people maintain good oral health. It focuses on helping people keep their teeth strong through endodontic therapy. The goal of this therapy is to maintain the health of the soft inner tissue of the tooth, also known as the pulp.

Every single dentist receives some endodontic therapy training. However, diagnosing problems that affect the pulp of the teeth can be a challenge. At Parkwood Dental, Dr. Oscar Hernandez has an in-depth understanding of the conditions that can affect a tooth’s pulp. He has learned and mastered root canal techniques, and he is up to date with treatments that allow him to accurately diagnose and treat complicated tooth issues.

The primary procedure in endodontics is a root canal. When people hear the term root canal, they may get anxious because they think about an uncomfortable operation that will leave them unable to function for an extended period of time. And while that might have been the case some years ago, endodontics today has advanced to the point where most patients can have the procedure performed without experiencing any significant discomfort.

During the procedure, the area will be cleaned and then isolated using a special tool. There are some basic steps that are typically used during the procedure. At times, these steps will require multiple visits, and at other times, all four steps can take place during one visit.

Some of the things that will determine how many visits you will need for your root canal is how much the infection or inflammation has spread and how difficult the infection is to treat. Dr. Hernandez wants his patients to have the best outcome. So, while a patient may want a root canal performed in just one visit, if our expert sees that the particular case will require multiple visits, he will inform the patient of this fact with the goal of having the best end result.

Root canals are extremely successful. Ninety percent of patients who go in for a root canal are able to save their tooth and experience a complete recovery. In the rare instances where a root canal is not successful, our team will present the patient with other options that will allow them to maintain an attractive and healthy smile nolvadex tablets.

At Parkwood Dental in East Bradenton and West Bradenton, Dr. Hernandez has mastered endodontics with the goal of helping the patient save their tooth and maintain their healthy smile. Contact us today to schedule a consultation to learn more about how endodontic therapy can help you.

Reviews

  • "Excellent service. I highly recommend them to anyone. The dentist is superb and so is the hygienist and staff. They take time and you never feel any pain. I’ve been with then about 5 years now I believe and am glad I finally have a good dentist."
  • "I saw Dr. Hernandez for a few visits before I had to switch dentists due to insurance. I didn’t like how I had to see a new dentist every time I went to that other office. I am now back and happy that I get to see him every time I come in. I need that consistency."
  • "The staff here is great! My most recent visit was a make-up for a visit that I had missed due to putting it on my calendar for the wrong time. I was re-scheduled at a time that was convenient for me and not just "worked in". Linda was very understanding of my mistake"
